Warts and All
A great way to get started is to read the following article. A pleasant time doing so, you will enjoy for sure.
"I am going to show my true colors, warts and all." This might be one way that this phrase could be used. There are many variations of how the phrase can be said, but you may hear statements like this very often today. But where did it come from? The phrase was coined by Oliver Cromwell, while he was having his portrait painted. Many Aristocrats and Royals of the time were in the habit of having their facial blemishes and/or flaws "painted out" of their portraits. This meant that any skin moles or moles warts were not shown in the paintings. Oliver Cromwell wanted his painting to reflect his true appearance.
The question will then arise as to what is the dreaded wart that inspired the expression "warts and all?" The wart is a rough lump growing on the skin caused by different types of the human papilloma virus. It is small, unattractive and unpleasant, and usually occurs on the hands and feet, the inside of the mouth, the genitals and the rectal area. The immune system usually has its own mechanism to resist the spread of warts but when warts cause pain or bleed, or are infectious like genital warts, then they need to be medically treated.
In treating warts and to prevent them from spreading it is recommended that the patient does not brush, comb, clip or shave the area where warts are located, and a nail clipper or nail file should not be used to pick at the warts. The patient should always wash their hands thoroughly after touching or tending to the wart. Treating warts is done in many ways. Some patients find relief by merely covering the wart with duct tape.
Other treatments are applying Salcyclic Acid, Canthradin or freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen. Doctors sometimes inject Bleomycin or Retinoids, which are derived from vitamin A. As a last resort, surgeons will resort to burning, cutting or using a laser beam to remove the warts. Those who believe in natural cures use aloe vera juice, as well as papaya juice because the papaine contained in this juice is found to be very effective on warts.
Milkweed, a common weed found growing wild in most parts of North America is found to be an effective remedy for warts. The old saying that you can treat anything by what you eat holds true even for warts. An intake of sulfur containing food like asparagus, citrus fruits, eggs, garlic and onions helps relieve and sometimes dry warts quickly and effectively.
With so many ways of getting rid of warts available today, if Oliver Cromwell had still been alive, then he would not have needed to ask his portrait artist to paint him, warts and all, because he could have had the warts removed and sat for his portrait without warts at all. Today, there are so many methods of taking care of warts that are so common in this day and age.
